Although bankruptcy is a federal procedure there are some variations in how it is administered in the federal courts sitting in the various states. In most states when a bankruptcy petition is filed the bankruptcy proceedings are supervised by a United States Trustee. However, in Alabama and North Carolina the bankruptcy is administered by a Bankruptcy Administrator who essentially follows the same procedures and has the same duties as the Trustee in other states.
